Mark’s plumbing journey started early. Growing up above a bathroom shop, he joined the family business at just 14, learning the trade alongside his father and brother. By 16, he was working full-time while studying at Leeds College of Building, specialising in modernising old bathrooms and replacing outdated cast iron baths with contemporary suites. In those early years, Mark focused on installing bathroom suites and central heating systems in terraced homes, many of which had never had these conveniences before.
At 26, Mark became self-employed and registered with Corgi (now Gas Safe), carrying out gas safety inspections across Leeds, including railway stations and residential properties. He also gained experience fitting and maintaining commercial catering equipment, giving him a strong background in both domestic and commercial plumbing.
By his mid-30s, Mark focused on emergency plumbing, working with national companies such as Able, React Fast, and Alliance. Around 2000, he founded Emergencyman, recognising the need for a fast, trustworthy, and local plumbing service. Emergencyman.co.uk became one of the first plumbing websites in Leeds when it launched in 2002, providing residents with easy access to professional plumbing help.
For the past several years, Mark has been based in Wetherby, serving customers across the town and surrounding areas, including Boston Spa, Spofforth, Collingham, Tadcaster, and Bardsey. Over time, Emergencyman expanded its expertise, especially in drain unblocking, thanks to a partnership with Keith, a drain specialist with over 45 years of experience. Today, the business runs a dedicated drain unblocking van, ensuring fast and reliable service.
Even now, in his 50s, Mark continues to keep his skills up-to-date. He is certified in water regulations and fully qualified in unvented hot water systems, demonstrating his commitment to professional development. While Emergencyman offers a wide range of plumbing services, emergency plumbing remains the heart of the business, delivering quick, dependable support to homes and businesses in Wetherby and nearby areas.
